Is the TYPO3 community 13337?

If you ask yourself if the TYPO3 community is l33t (leet=elite), here is the definitive proof. Read further and get some statistics about the community.

TYPO3 community is leeet

As of 2007-08-13 20:05 UTC+2 we have 13337 subscribers on the mailing lists. This is not leet, but leeet (which is an increase of just leet).

If you are unknown to the "leet-speak" have a look to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet

I must admit, that this are not unique subscribers ob the mailing lists, some of them are probably subscribed to more then one mailing list.

Those who know me, know that I'm always interested in some statistics, so I made some basic statistics from the data of the TYPO3 mailing list server.

So a question might be: What are the largest mailing lists? Here we are with the top ten:

  • 1. typo3-english 1994 members
  • 2. typo3-announce 1838 members
  • 3. typo3-german 1526 members
  • 4. typo3-dev 474 members
  • 5. typo3-install 470 members
  • 6. typo3-linux 354 members
  • 7. typo3-stuttgart 295 members
  • 8. typo3-at 293 members
  • 9. typo3-windows 277 members
  • 10. typo3-marketing 271 members

So the sad thing is: typo3-english has more subscribers than typo3-announce. More people should subscribe to typo3-announce because the most important messages are posted here. However, all users who are seriously interested in security of TYPO3 should subscribe to this list. This is a non-discussion list which means that the traffic is quite low, so please subscribe now

The mailing lists are just one part of the game. Unfortunately at the moment there are no statistics about the nntp usage (yet).

The mail statistics can give us an idea whats going on: 8500 posts to the mailing lists and news groups resulting in 480'000 mails sent to mailing lists subscribers. This figures are on a weekly base.

The graphs on the statistics shows also, that the TYPO3 community is probably most active in Europe, as you can see, the peek time when messages are posted are during European daytime.

Please let me know about what kind of further statistics you are interested.

So this means that we just need another 120 000 to become 133337! ;-)

Nerds work at night, so your conclusion about european day-times might not be very exact ;-)
