TYPO3 Coding Guidelines updated for version 4.x

Category: Core

By: François Suter

The TYPO3 4.x Coding Guidelines were updated with observations made during the development of version 4.4.

This is just a short note to draw your attention to the changes contained in the newly released version of the TYPO3 4.x Coding Guidelines:

  • the rules on line length were relaxed. In an era of larger screens the limit of 80 characters seemed a bit too restrictive, but some best practices are still advised, so go and read all the details in the manual;
  • a note was added to the effect that all punctation marks must be included in localized strings;
  • finally running and creating unit tests was added to the list of best practices.

Is there a reason why a French flag stands before the English document?

@Christian: it's a bug in the rendering process, but nobody had the time to dig into it until now. I have no idea why it breaks only for doc_core_cgl and not other manuals :-/
