Why should you vote for me for the BCC.

Category: Olivier Dobberkau, TYPO3, Planet TYPO3

<Disclosure>: This is a personal message. Being on Buzz.typo3.org does not mean that I am officially endorsed by the TYPO3 Association. Candidates were given the possibilty to give URLs to introduce themselves. I thought that Buzz.typo3.org is the appropriate place since this is where I express my thoughts about TYPO3.</Disclosure>

When I discovered TYPO3 some years ago, its community was in a state of wilderness like Jean-Jacques Rousseau describes it in his concept "the social contract" See Opens external link in new windowhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Social_Contract for a brief abstract.

Due of it growth some wise members of the community decided to form an association around TYPO3 to govern and secure the further destiny of this evolving open source project. The TYPO3 association was born. During its establishing years participation and transparency have always been an issue for its different members and interessted public. A year ago the spirit of democracy took off and inspired the active members to open up more and they decided to install a gremium of control called the BCC.

The BCC consist of 5 members from the TYPO3 Association passive members and its main work is the auditing of all financial matters dealt within the Associations work. It is a mean for the passive members to influence and advise decisions that involve spending the members and donators money. The BCC is also a first step toward a more transparent TYPO3 Association because it will be able to see if budgets are used in a proper manner and no misuse is tolerated by the active members within themselves. This is a large improvement and a very good argument to join for those that have been argueing about not becomming a TYPO3 Association Member.

Now i do candidate for this BCC. Why should you then vote for me?

  • I strongly believe that TYPO3 is a great project with a great community
  • TYPO3 Associations work is great but lacks the needed budget on many ends
  • By installing a BCC the budget will be more transparent thus more people will contribute to it
  • I will listen to the TYPO3 associations members and their concerns
  • I will try to be a bridge between the TYPO3 association and its stakeholders: community members, members and public
  • Hopefully with my fellow canditates we will help to improve structures and communication around the delicate monetary actions in the TYPO3 association

Please feel free to ask your questions in public thru the comments of this blog or contact me in person via mail or telephone.

PS: Voting started today and should have received an invitation to the voting system by the TYPO3 Association. Check with them if you are missing yours.

@Manuel: Candidates were asked by the TYPO3 Association to give URL to their blogs. I offered then this and a link to my XING profile.

I have been very long in the TYPO3 community and have followed a lot of the discussions in the association too. I have this blog for all things related to TYPO3.

I felt that i needed to write about my motivation and i think the typo3.org is the relevant place for it.

if you like i will add a disclosure to the article that it is not meant to be an endorsement by who ever.

What you think?

compare this to president of usa using government twitter account @USA.gov for his personal (!) election campaign. this is unfair, since the other candidates do not have access to this twitter account. unfair, even if he used a disclosure.
i wouldn't have done this, but it's your decision.
